The Lord Lab

Butterflies are a major influence in the work I make with my daughter, it may not always be obvious but they are always there. My daughter is the central figure in the images and she said I needed to meet her professor, Dr. Nathan Lord, the Director of the Louisiana State Arthropod Museum (LSAM) at Louisiana State University (LSU).

Morpho butterflies are one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet to me, I am fascinated by the iridescent blue wings and the way the color changes based on light. The Lordlab is working doing some really interesting imaging of iridescence and paired up with the Louisiana Art and Science Museum in Baton Rouge to create a museum exhibit based on the science of iridescence.

Lucky me! I was invited to have a piece in the exhibition which will open next July, I had the opportunity to tour the museum and meet with some pretty amazing people. On the museum trip, I took time to photography Dr. Lord and his graduate students with some of the insects housed in the Entomology Museum on LSU campus.

Visit the Lord Lab site to see all the images and some pretty cool science.

I am learning to spread butterflies for my piece in the exhibition which has been pretty cool to learn. Please do not judge my amateur butterfly spreading skills…. It is a work in progress.
